Reducing the risk of surgical site infections

2-5% of patients undergoing surgery will experience negative consequences of a surgical site infection (SSI), including extended length of stay in hospital.11 However SSIs are preventable with the use of evidence-based measures.11 Download our interactive module to explore the evidence, guidelines and solutions to help identify opportunities to reduce the risk of SSIs in your surgical patients throughout their perioperative journey.

  • Sterilization Assurance
    Sterilization Assurance

Surgical site infections have been attributed to incompletely processed instruments.24 An undetected sterilization process failure can put patients at risk.

3M offers a complete solution to provide assurance to operating room and central sterilization departments, including equipment monitoring, load monitoring, internal and external pack monitoring.

Best practice monitoring programs for sterilization cycles use all four monitoring options together routinely to ensure the maximum chance of a non-compliant sterilization cycle being identified and the surgical instruments being removed from use.

  • Maintaining Normothermia
    Maintaining Normothermia

Unintended hypothermia is easily preventable. Studies show that warming patients by maintaining a core temperature of 36ºC or higher, helps to improve outcomes by reducing the frequency of complications often associated with inadvertent hypothermia. The consequences of hypothermia include higher mortality rates, longer hospital stays and an increased rate of wound infection.23

3M is dedicated to providing temperature monitoring and patient warming solutions that help to enhance patient recovery.
