Learn More2-5% of patients undergoing surgery will experience negative consequences of a surgical site infection (SSI), including extended length of stay in hospital.11 However SSIs are preventable with the use of evidence-based measures.11 Download our interactive module to explore the evidence, guidelines and solutions to help identify opportunities to reduce the risk of SSIs in your surgical patients throughout their perioperative journey.
Help your patients return to their lives after surgery by optimising post-operative healing. 3M’s innovative incision and wound management solutions can help in reducing the risk of complications including surgical site infections (SSI).12-20 Reducing the length of hospital stay can help lower total cost of care.11 From hospital to home, 3M innovations help solve wound healing challenges like no other, to help patients heal and get back on the road to recovery. 3M is with you every step of the way.
The global pandemic has put enormous pressure on healthcare workers and carers. It is important that you take care of yourself in order to help others. 3M offers resources to promote safety and well-being in the return to surgery.

Surgical site infections have been attributed to incompletely processed instruments.24 An undetected sterilization process failure can put patients at risk.
3M offers a complete solution to provide assurance to operating room and central sterilization departments, including equipment monitoring, load monitoring, internal and external pack monitoring.
Best practice monitoring programs for sterilization cycles use all four monitoring options together routinely to ensure the maximum chance of a non-compliant sterilization cycle being identified and the surgical instruments being removed from use.
When preparing the skin for a surgical incision, create a chemical and physical barrier around the incision site with a 3M™ Ioban™ 2 Antimicrobial Incise Drape to reduce skin recolonisation and therefore the risk of SSI.21,22
When covering an incision for post-operative healing, 3M™ Prevena™ Therapy has been proven to help reduce surgical site complications and improve patient outcomes across multiple surgical specialties.12-20
Unintended hypothermia is easily preventable. Studies show that warming patients by maintaining a core temperature of 36ºC or higher, helps to improve outcomes by reducing the frequency of complications often associated with inadvertent hypothermia. The consequences of hypothermia include higher mortality rates, longer hospital stays and an increased rate of wound infection.23
3M is dedicated to providing temperature monitoring and patient warming solutions that help to enhance patient recovery.
